Russian market of meat and meat products in 2008-2009. Effect of the crisis in meat industry

Per capita meat consumption in Russia in 2009 decreased by 7 kg. and was 56 kg. per year, which is similar to the value of this indicator in 2007

In 2008 in all categories of farms in Russia there were 16, 3 million heads of pigs, 21, 6 million sheep and goats and 21, 1 million head of cattle. In September 2009 the number of cattle was 21, 7 million animals, including 9, 1 million head of cattle.

Production of meat products in 2009 will amount to 3383 thousand tons, while in 2008 it was equal to 4089 tons should be noted that the average annual growth rate of production of meat products in Russia in 1990-2007, were significantly higher than the rate growth of meat production. Accordingly, the share of meat products in production of meat and meat products in Russia increased from 35% in 1990 to 60% in 2007 to 2009 is expected to decline in the share of meat products to 55%.

Ousting meat meat products due to a change in the social situation in society: there is a steady downward trend in leisure time for people engaged in market structures. This category of people, weighing the time and money in preparing food at home, makes the choice in favor of industrial meat and convenience food.

In the first half of 2009 compared to the same period in 2008, the production of sausages decreased by 10, 4% and amounted to 1073, 0 tons. In the analysis of performance revealed that the release was reduced in all federal districts. The maximum decline in production was recorded in Siberia (15, 9%) and Far Eastern Federal District (15, 5%).

During the period from 2001 to 2007. meat production in Russia increased by 31%, but in the last few years the market had the opposite tendencies of development. Thus, in 2005 saw an increase in the production of meat of all kinds, as compared with 2004 - by 12%, while in 2006 this figure, in contrast, declined by 5%. In 2007 the volume of production of meat has increased again - to 3 1%, amounting to 623 mln. cans (which corresponds to 236 thousand tons). In 2008, there was a small decline in production - up to 587 million standard cans (206 tons). Forecast for 2009 - 606 mln. cans (212 tons).

Russia is among the countries with the highest growth rate of food inflation in Europe. According to head of investment analysis unit GC "Hladoprodukt" and "Fish Union" Timur Mitupov, prices for meat and meat products in Russia for the period of 2008 grew by 23, 0%, whereas in the EU - in 5 1 %. In 2009, the rise in prices continued.
